Therapy is hard.

I promise to always be upfront with you, so we have to start with the above statement.  Your decision to look up therapists might have been hard.  Who can you trust?  Will a therapist be able to understand you?  How will you start to feel better?  Once you sit down in session, it may be hard to know where to begin.  Sometimes, it will feel hard to push through challenging conversations, look at your situation from all angles, or consider how to change your circumstances.  Change itself is hard, as you may feel hopeless or worried about what it may mean.

Therapy is also an opportunity to make life easier.

How much easier would it be to get through your workday without your anxiety?  Or take better care of yourself without depression?  Or enjoy your family, if only you were getting your needs met?  Therapy can help with so many different obstacles and sometimes just feels good by itself.  That's probably because when you sit down across from a therapist, you get to feel heard, seen, appreciated, and understood.  Therapists want the best for you and will work with you to define and achieve your most important goals.
